Nutra-Zinc Zinc Chelate is a high-potency Zinc formula on a complementary vitamin and mineral base. Zinc activates more than 100 diverse enzyme systems and is required for male health and wound healing. Protein synthesis, growth and insulin activity and the formation of healthy bones all depend on the presence of Zinc. It is important for prostate health, especially because as men age and their ability to absorb zinc declines. Zinc acts in the utilisation of nitrogen and sulphur in the production of protein and the synthesis of DNA. Because both DNA and RNA require zinc-containing enzymes for production and function, Zinc is an important factor in the processes of cell division and growth. Insulin released from the pancreas is zinc dependent, and low levels of zinc have been noted in diabetics who also excrete the mineral faster than non-diabetics. Zinc reduces the formation of 5-alpha-reductase, the enzyme responsible for the conversion of testosterone to DiHydroTestosterone (DHT) involved in BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia), an enlargement of the gland associated with age in some men.
